Rapid Re-Housing
The purpose of the Helping Hand House Rapid Re-housing Program is to end homelessness for families with children by providing temporary, tailored financial and housing stabilization services that will enable families to quickly locate and become self-sufficient in their own housing. This program is for families with minimal barriers.
Families in Pierce County who qualify move into housing leased in their name. Success in this program depends on the adult(s) being ready to become quickly employed and able to manage a household. Families from Emergency Housing programs who need more time to stabilize may be good candidates for this program since they have already received case management, life-skills classes, financial literacy training, etc. as well as public benefits as authorized and appropriate for financially distressed families.
Rapid Re-housing Program families can receive support for moving costs, security deposits, rental and utility assistance, and case management. As with all our other programs, payments are made directly to landlords, utility companies or other vendors, not to the participants.
The Rapid Re-Housing case manager assists the family with re-location to permanent housing, creation and/or modification of a plan to address housing stability, and consultation regarding transition and progress. After three months, each household is re-assessed for eligibility to continue in the program. The average length of assistance for each household is 3-9 months.
