Employment Program
The key to ending family homelessness lies in a living wage job.
The Helping Hand House Employment Program benefits families in our Rapid Re-Housing and Emergency, Transitional, Permanent Supportive Housing programs. Employment, wage progression and financial literacy are key elements of our mission to end family homelessness. Helping Hand House has a full time Employment Specialist who works with adult family members who are unemployed and underemployed.
She begins by helping clients assess their job interests and aptitudes, and takes them through a series of career-path teaching sessions including how to write a resume, searching for jobs, filling out a job application, writing cover letters, overcoming barriers to employment, how to prepare and dress for an interview, how to interview, and how to keep a job. Clients are also referred to higher education and job training sources.
Living wage jobs, along with affordable housing, are the most essential requirements for ending homelessness. Without income, families suffer; they struggle to find the necessities most of us take for granted – food, shelter and clothing. At Helping Hand House we make employment a priority. Through career assessments, planning and training, our Employment Specialist helps families find meaningful work that provides a living family wage and personal satisfaction. And once they are employed, our case managers help families learn how to budget and save.
