When Tina first contacted us she had lost almost everything that was important in her life. The realities of living a life addicted to drugs and alcohol had become apparent and the only genuine thing she had was her three children. Her marriage had ended long ago and, unable to afford the cost of an apartment, she was forced to move into a camper. As her life went from bad to worse, she soon had Child Protective Services knocking on her door. The child welfare worker told her she would be losing her children and, if she didn't get off drugs, she might never have custody of them again. When the worker left that day she took with her Tina's three sons. It was at this point that Tina knew she needed help.

When Tina entered the Helping Hand House Program, she had many obstacles to overcome. She had no car, no furniture, and she hadn't worked in eleven years. Tina met weekly with a case manager who provided her with many of the tools she would need to overcome those obstacles, but Tina realized that it was she who needed to do the work. She took the bus to all her appointments, including A.A. and N.A. weekly meetings. Soon, she found a job and began putting money into a savings account. After regaining custody of one of her sons, she continued to work hard to get the other two children back as well. After five months in the Helping Hand House Program, Tina had saved enough money to get a car and an apartment.

Tina now has all three of her children back with her and is working her way towards manager at her job. She still keeps in contact with the staff here and continues to flourish in her career and with her family.
